Sean Woytek joins BASIS San Antonio Primary – North Central Campus as Head of School with experience supporting, leading, and creating project learning efforts in Colorado over the last decade. With over 16 years of experience in the field of education, Sean has served in the roles of teacher, teacher leader, mentor, teacher educator, nonprofit founder, education consultant, and head of school.
Sean’s passion for a rigorous, transformative, and equitable education began as a child growing up in a family of educators. After entering the profession as a secondary social sciences teacher in the same district from which he graduated high school, Sean transitioned to working with alternative education in the same district his grandfather had left a legacy. While in Denver, Sean met his wife, became a founding member of a teacher-leader nonprofit and helped design the district’s professional development framework. Wanting to learn more about leadership and to fully immerse himself in learning led Sean to a school leadership residency on the West Coast and eventually to leading in rural Southwest Colorado. Most recently, even amid a pandemic, Sean’s leadership experience at Animas High School resulted in continued excellence on the Colorado Department of Education’s school performance framework, successful fundraising and financing of a new $19 million high school building, and unprecedented partnerships between high school and college communities.
Sean loves learning and holds a Professional Administrative License in K-12 Education. He graduated from Colorado Mesa University with a B.A. in Social Science Education. Sean has earned a M.S. in Integrating Technology into the Curriculum from Walden University, a M.A. in Education Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Denver, and a M.Ed. in Education Leadership from the High Tech High Graduate School of Education. In addition to all that learning, Sean is currently a second year Doctoral student in the Mid-Career Leadership program from the University of Pennsylvania.
When he is not busy leading a school or completing his doctoral studies, you can be sure to find Sean enjoying time gardening, going on walks, or simply hanging out with his family. Sean, a Colorado native, his wife, and their two sons recently moved to the San Antonio area and are excited to become part of our BASIS community.
